Position Description

The Commercial Underwriter will provide support to commercial lending teams. Provide expertise in underwriting, structuring, servicing and documenting new and renewal credits. Responsible for identifying, gathering and analyzing relevant information to assess credit risk, establish viability of sources of repayment and determine appropriate loan structures. Act as lead underwriter in collaboration with bankers in preparing credit approval memos with recommendations consistent with bank policy that illustrate well-reasoned analysis. Perform servicing reviews and support management of the assigned portfolio to identify and minimize risk to the Bank. Provide quality customer service, including participation in joint calls on customers, as needed. Assist in special projects as assigned.

****This position has the ability to be seated in Dallas TX, Austin TX, or LA California.****

Accountabilities:
Partner with Bankers and customers/prospects to gather data and ask questions regarding needs and structuring of new requests. Analyze information to support structuring and approval of loans within acceptable time frame. Perform financial statement analysis. Review industry information and comparisons. Analyze collateral. Document general business overview of borrower and analyze information. Analyze key risks and mitigants. Recommend structuring and covenants when warranted. Prepare loan approval documentation. Recommend credit grade. Maintain contact with customers, as necessary, to gather information through approval process. Ensure that Banker is aware of underwriting progress at all times.

Coordinate with banker/banker assistant to identify servicing information and review requirements. Assess risk and make sound action recommendation to Banker on existing loans by independently conducting reviews, analysis, and research. Work with the Banker or bank partners in resolving the more complex risk issues. Ensure that Banker is aware of review status and potential changes at all times.

Actively participate in workflow meetings as scheduled to coordinate the review and renewal schedule for existing credit with Banker, Banker Assistant and approving officer, ensuring timely customer service and risk management.

Partner with credit administration and sales managers on Banker, BA and/or peer development and training.

Identify cross-sell opportunities for new and existing relationships based on analysis of financial statements, industry knowledge, transaction history, etc.

Actively participate in customer and prospect calls, as needed.

Actively participate in projects, as needed.

Position Requirements

Basic Qualifications:
Bachelor degree with a minimum of 4 years lending/credit experience.
-OR-
High school diploma or GED with a minimum of 8 years lending/credit experience.

Additional Requirements:
Strong PC, software and financial analysis skills
Ability to thoroughly analyze complex credits on an independent basis

Strong knowledge of financial accounting, loan structuring, commercial products and services, loan documentation requirements, legal issues, credit grades, credit processes, etc. to support larger and more complex credit requests

Strong written and oral communications skills

Ability to properly assess issues related to a credit request and present them clearly and accurately

Ability to collaborate across multiple functional areas (e.g. credit, banker, credit risk, audit) and Regions

Ability to excel in a team environment

Ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks concurrently

Ability to travel if needed

Preferred Skill
Commercial Credit Underwriting experience
