Payroll Specialist

The Payroll Specialist is responsible for a broad range of human resource duties including payroll, benefit administration, retirement, recruitment and training.

Essential Job Functions: • Maintains personnel records, computes and prepares payroll, posts compensated absences to update individual sick and vacation balances. Verifies employment/earnings when requested. Forwards workers’ compensation and insurance forms to the County Insurance/Benefits Coordinator. • Assists with recruitment initiatives, conducts new hire orientation presentation and manages new hire paperwork. • Coordinates training initiatives with HR and Management teams. Researches and interviews trainers, coordinates and schedules management, employee, and development training and special events. • Assists with compliance of all federal and state regulations and government reporting requirements: EEO, ADA, FMLA, ERISA, Department of Labor and OSHA. Assists with employee benefit administration, self-insured workers’ compensation, policies, and procedures.

Minimum Qualifications: Applicants must have a High School diploma or GED, a valid Ohio Driver’s license with a safe driving record and a minimum of two years of related experience in this field.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: This position is responsible for maintaining knowledge of public employees benefits, retirement, and self-insured workers compensations, performing payroll and related responsibilities, new hire orientation, maintaining various employee procedures, guidelines and documents, overseeing records and employee databases, and ensuring compliance with departmental, state and federal rules and regulations. Applicants should demonstrate a high degree of initiative and logic, exercise good judgement, exhibit sound decision-making when faced with complex or unique situations, demonstrate a high degree of confidentiality and ethical standards and consistently deliver general customer service in a professional fashion.

Pay: Starting: $20.50
